Oranga Wairua / Palliative Care

Overview    

Oranga Wairua / Palliative Care is a service for people of all cultures with a life limiting illness, assisting them and their whānau. It focuses on: 

  • Supporting
  • Enabling
  • Empowering 

The purpose of Oranga Wairua is to work with everyone within the whānau, hapū (clans or descent groups) and with service providers.  

An Oranga Wairua assessment is done with the client and whānau from a “whare tapa whā” model of practice, supporting and assisting the whānau in decision making and providing a liaison to other health services.  

The client has the peace of mind of regular home visits and the support of a Registered Nurse, a social worker, Home Based services, advocacy and whānau support, as well as access to relevant internal services offered by Te Korowai Hauora o Hauraki.

Referral Process           

Referral to the Oranga Wairua service is via:

  • GP
  • Nurse
  • District Nurse
  • Social Worker
  • Any Health Professional
